The NAGARA Board of Directors is pleased to announce the formation of a new committee to address equity and social justice. The Racism, Equity, Accessibility, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee – or the READI Committee for short – seeks to create an equitable, welcoming, inclusive, and culturally-competent organization that represents our members and responds to their unique needs.
With the goal of increasing inclusivity, the NAGARA Board would like to invite members of the association to join one of two sub-committees of the READI Committee: Association Improvement and Member Support. The two sub-committees will discuss the meaning of READI so they can work from a common understanding, define their mission statements, and determine their initial goals and action items. As a starting point, the NAGARA Board suggests the following, but encourages sub-committee participants to explore their own ideas for READI Committee initiatives:
The Association Improvement Sub-Committee will address topics such as a READI statement for NAGARA, a READI award, creating accessible and inclusive offerings for members, and analyzing member engagement.
The Member Support Sub-Committee will discuss ways to improve the accessibility of NAGARA’s training and programming; will engage with the NAGARA Professional Development Committee to provide training and programming, will serve as a communication platform for all NAGARA members; and will help NAGARA membership explore avenues for government institutions to foster transparency and accountability at all levels of government.
